R.I.P. Granny! Coping w/ Life After

We sat there looking at pictures of family and friends we had not seen in years, and I thought to myself call granny to see the pics. She loves to see all the pictures of things going on. But I stood there. Just then my mom said the same thing that was on my mind....she though about calling granny to see the pics. Of course the hard reality hit that granny could not come to see the pictures...cause they were pictures at the church and at the wake after the funeral.

For years granny would have a good laugh at things and call us to see things in the paper and on TV , and we the same in calling her. No one to call now. My mom cut out the death announcement in the paper and when she showed me I looked and wondered why there was a pic of granny on it. No! You usually see death announcements of other people. Never anyone so close to home. The last up close and personal relative that died was my grandad, when I was about 3yrs. I had no clue what death was. I just knew that he left and never came back. The reality of life is that she was here for a large portion of my life and fully active in it.

At the funeral it was amazing to be amongst the people whose life she touched. In my own way I felt it was my grandma, and that when she died the world should at least stop to pay respect. Reality check again. Only my world stopped and my family and her friends worlds. But the rest of the world continued. At first I felt hurt...how could they act like nothing happened and pretend like it was something simple to get over. At least the people who came to the funeral knew and had a clue. People of every age group, race creed and colour came. It was honestly very positive for me to meet people who knew her before I did. When they spoke of her life and the way she touched theirs it was a blessing just to hear. She was a blessing to so many. I have friends who passed through my house for a night and always remember her.

So to you granny...I love you! Thank you for always being there for me. You will be remembered.

Love TS 'Miss Trini'
