Well this entry is a little late but....here it is
Well let me begin by saying what an interesting weekend it was last weekend. My fraternity had the annual retreat on St. George Island. Of course I was excited when I heard island...but you know it is just a little strip of land..not half as dynamic as Trindad. Anyway, we got there and the house was absolutely fantastic...like a true vacation home.It was in a gated community on the furthest end of the island on a plantation reserve, a four storey house with four bedrooms, an elevator for the handicap, a pool, study, washer & dryer, pool, bbq grill etc. and a walk to the beach on one side of the island and a walk to the bay on the other side. Of course I could not go in the pool for varied reasons, but you know guys...they came all the way into the bedroom to try to grab me from in the bed. After my friend and I protested, they understood and got her instead. They took her down the three levels to the ground level kickin' and screaming and threw her out into the pool. Then one of the guys said she was cool...I gather cause they were able to throw her into the pool. Some other stuff happened that I can't even mention 'cause it is just plain outrageous and disgusting to me...but some found it funny.
Anyway, by day we discussed the fraternity business and by night and also some of the day we ate, painted, caught crabs at the sea, played the guitar and made up songs, strolled to the bay and ran back from mosquitoes etc. At night we woke up in fright with the whole house shacking from the cracking thunder and the lightning which lit the room like daylight. IT was like what you would see in a movie, a horrible storm by night and a calm by day. I must say I was a bit afraid with some of the thunder \(and I am usu not at all\) because the whole house shook and rattled. Not to mention it was freezing. Some crazy tail person put the A/C on 71 during the storm. We were under blankets, sheets and comforters and still cold.
P.S. I forgot to mention that we drove there in about 2hours a bit lost in seven cars. When we got there everyone jumped out of the car and raced into the house. It was like an episode of the REAL WORLD. Sixteen fraternity brothers selected to live in a beach house for the weekend. I ran from ground all the way up to the fourth level and back to the third to make sure I got a room with one of the queen beds. I was out of breathe and dazed. We all were! I didn't get the top level with the feather down comforter, but I got the king on the third level with the balcony. Anyway the weekend came to an abrupt end when I heard we had to be out of the house by 10am on Sunday. IT was a challenge esp since some pple were up till like 5am.
Well we are all back at school and this week has been crazy. I have been at school from 9am to 9:30pm every night. Today I had back to back class and work and then fraternity RUSH night. This week is RUSH week for the frat. This week is also crazy because not a single toilet in the architecture building is working. Apparently something going on that is real serious. The stench is now filtering through the school cause our studio smells like a backed up toilet. It just stops you BOOM when you enter. Then they put up notices that you could use the 2male and 2 female bathrooms in the teachers area. But guess what! That area closes at 5pm when the secretary leaves. Only lecturers got keys. So from 5pm to 9:30pm...it was rough. They put up notices that you can go to the other building next door. however, that meant running out into the rain and down the street to the other building. Oh well ain't life just dandy.
But alas life continues always...
I can't say why I am so happy, but I just feel really happy on the inside. No matter some of the rough stuff I have been through the last couple days \(alot of craziness\)...but I am happy. I guess cause I got my family with me in spirit and my grandma lookin' down on me. Now I got someone on the other side who can go have a lil chat with God for me too. And maybe I jus know that no matter what comes my way I can and will get through it.
Oh and I forgot to mention photography is cool. I really like the artsy pple in their. We supposed to go shoot together this weekend if the sun shines. We did a contact sheet in the darkroom today. Seemed simple compared to black and white. The lecturer is funny. I wish I could bottle up some of his character in the email.
Oh and I finally made it to the gym. It is tight. Nuff nuff equipment! They got Kickboxing and Hip Hop Aerobics...cool. Soon gonna have a rock climbing wall. I am excited. Dunno when I gonna get the chance to go yet though. Checked out the pool too! But the way I see it I get a lot of exercise walking around campus too. Photography is on the other side completely to the Architecture building.
Alas I gone...got a thesis presentation Friday and other things a gwan!
